Dr. Melanie Beingessner shares her story about helping mothers learn how to care for and massage their babies through the Best Beginnings Program

Best Beginnings is built on the belief that simple, nurturing touch and movement can shape a baby’s developing brain for life. Every parent can learn these skills — easily, joyfully, and confidently

Infant massage is more than a soothing practice — it is a powerful way to stimulate Baby’s developing brain. Gentle, rhythmic touch activates the sensory and motor pathways that form the foundation for learning, movement, and emotional regulation. Research shows that nurturing touch helps organize the nervous system, enhances early communication between Baby and caregiver, and supports the integration of primitive reflexes that prepare Baby for future milestones.

Why Best Beginnings was Created

A Message to Parents and Caregivers

Throughout my career, I have noticed that many parents are struggling to know how to touch and play with their babies. Many new parents don’t understand why tummy time is so important and that Baby should move about the house and leave messes where they go.

During my day, I teach new parents the same things over and over:

  • The importance of tummy time

  • How babies need to experience their world

  • How proper movement influences brain development

  • What movements will help to increase joint range of motion

  • What specific movements help the body to roll, sit and crawl more easily

  • Primitive reflexes – what they are and how to help them integrate

  • The benefits of wearing Baby

  • and so much more

I’ve come to realize that it’s not just the parents who come to see me who need this information.

All parents need this information!

The result is Best Beginnings – a guide to help you help your Baby to thrive in this complicated world.

Thank you again for choosing this program.  I hope you find many pearls of information to help make your journey as a parent easier and more fun. I also hope that you enjoy massaging your baby as much as I did!
